A fifty-kilometre drive North from the Letaba camp will take you to the Pioneer Dam where you will find yourself at the entrance gate to the Mopani Rest Camp.  Naturally, the camp can also be accessed  via the Phalaborwa Gate.
Named after the the ubiquitous Mopani Tree the camp is a haven of peace and tranquility. In winter months the animals tend to be drawn to water sources.  With the camp overlooking the Pioneer Dam this fact will prove useful in deciding the time of year to visit the park  Also, the presence of a large body of water attracts a variety of aquatic birds and waders.  For those in search of wildlife of a different kind there is also the attraction of Hippo and Waterbuck that take advantage of the water.  Those that come only to drink include Impala, Elephant, Warthog, Buffalo and Elephant.  On the verandah and in the Ladies’ Bar you will find other bodies taking advantage of cocktail hour as the sun sets
